Easysland set to mount Cheltenham defence

Trainer David Cottin believes Easysland is looking well placed to successfuly defend the Glenfarclas Chase at next month’s Cheltenham Festival.

The JP McManus-owned seven-year-old produced one of the standout performances at last year’s prestigious meeting, as he saw off the challenge of four-time Festival hero and dual Grand National winner Tiger Roll to triumph in the cross-country race.

Since then, Easysland could only finish fourth on his return to the Cotswolds last November, but despite that setback Cottin believes his gelding is well positioned to defend his title at Prestbury Park next month.

“Easysland is in good form before the Festival. I’m very happy with him and he’ll go there fit and ready,” Cottin told thejockeyclub.co.uk.

Cottin has also confirmed that Easysland’s stablemate Ajas is set to run in the same race at the Festival as part of his preparations for a Grand National tilt at Aintree the following month.

“Ajas will also run, as I think it will be a good prep for him in view to the Grand National,” Cottin added.

“It’s been a good stepping-stone for Tiger Roll in the past, so I think this is the ideal option for him too.

“Ajas is a very good horse. It’ll be interesting to see him run over a bit of distance and in a race with pace.

“I think he’ll adapt well as he’s easy to ride and respects his fences.”
